My Story
Rex Autry was born at the beginning of the third millennium, the year 2000, in the working-class neighborhood of Olmos Park Terrace, on the outskirts of urban San Antonio, and adjacent to the wealthy enclave of Olmos Park.

As a child, Rex would experience many things that would make the city of San Antonio unique, as one of the oldest cities in the continental United States, dating back to pre-colonial times, the city had a rich and vibrant history that would reflect greatly on him and his perception of art.

With a Hispanic and Native background alongside an Anglo-Irish heritage, the bright colors of Mexican Art including, traditional dress, native holiday celebrations like Dia de Muertos, and Tejano Brass bands, would make the power of color a necessity in his artwork.

By the age of 8, his family would have moved to the exploding metropolis of Houston, as the 2007 global recession made it difficult to keep a job in San Antonio. Over the next decade, as Rex grew older, his perception would change as Houston would be a much more diverse region than he had experienced before. Hearing Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, German, French, and even Urdu spoken on a regular basis.

With a multitude of influences around him, he began to travel around the city as much as possible, discovering the enormous art scene the city had to offer. He began to do research, finding out everything there was to know about art history and its giants, Picasso, Rothko, Pollock, Klint, Van Gogh, Warhol, and Basquiat.

2021 would be the beginning of the prolific life of Autry, wherein 6 months produced nearly 100 paintings, usually in the late night or midday, at his peaks of creative thought.
